Atterbury’s much anticipated shopping centre in the south of Mauritius, the Bo’Valon Mall, which is being developed with EnAtt, has been taking shape on this island paradise. For a progress update we spoke to Pieter Olivier, Atterbury’s Development Manager responsible for developments in Mauritius.
The mall is scheduled to be ready for opening in November this year… is everything on track to achieve this?
Indeed, everything is on track with the construction work. We are set to open the mall at the end of October, in fact.
What is currently happening on the site, and what will be done in the next couple of months?
The concrete structure of the building is almost there – 80% complete by now. The majority of the main services and earthworks are also installed by now.
Have there been any hiccups during the construction process?
We’ve been lucky; there haven’t been any unforeseen problems to contend with. Everything has gone according to plan, and on schedule.
How is the leasing going – is there any space left in the mall?
The interest from tenants has been absolutely overwhelming, which was expected as there has not been any retail offering even close to this in the area before. The EnAtt leasing team has done a great job, and at present we’re on 95% of signed commitments.
How many well-known retailers will be present in the mall?
Bo’Valon’s anchor tenants will be Kingsavers and Espace Maison, and they will be supported by fashion brands such as Go Sports, Vesti One, Quicksilver and City Sports, to name a few. The food court will house well-known South African brands such as Spur, Panarottis and KFC, and there will be a kiddies play area too. The mall will also have enough on-grade parking spaces that will be easily accessible from the roads servicing Mahebourg and Blue Bay.
Can you share any feedback from the community so far? Is there a buzz about the new mall?
Yes, there is a lot of positive sentiment around the Bo’Valon Mall. The Mahebourg locals are looking forward to having one of the best shopping destinations on the island on their doorstep.
How do you think the mall will change shopping habits in the area? And what will be the major benefit of the mall in that location?
The Bo’Valon Mall will bring exciting and convenient shopping to the south of Mauritius with a development competing with the best the island can provide.
