Spring has sprung (well, almost!) and Newtown Junction can’t wait to welcome you.
- Start spring with a bang! On Friday 1 September the Naked DJ will be spinning discs at the grand opening of Top Flow, where you can also enjoy traditional food.
- The popular Potato Shed has live entertainment every Friday from 18:00 – 19:00… so round up your girlfriends and tuck into their succulent eight-hour lamb on the spit.
- Get fit! Bring your bestie, your leggings and your gym shoes, fill your water bottle, and get fit in the open air with Activate the City! Every Saturday starting on 23 September Planet Fitness will offer an intense workout session from 7:30 to 9:00 in the piazza. If however you prefer a workout with dance moves, Soweto’s Finest Dance Studio will help you get your body summer ready. You can choose between a variety of dance styles from ballet, hip hop, contemporary and pantsula dancing.
- Eat clean! Once your (dirty) workout is over, head to Outies Bakery+café located just opposite the Market Theatre and treat yourself to a tasty yet healthy smoothie.
- Catch a blockbuster! Ster-Kinekor will keep you entertained with a variety of movies to choose from. Just add popcorn!
- Work your laughing muscles! Make sure you’re at Capello on 15 September for a special comedy night… and a couple of their killer cocktails.
- Stay over in style. Whether you are visiting Newtown for business, leisure or “bleisure”, City Lodge has great Sho’t Left deals – try R1120 for a double room with breakfast.
- For a relaxed day outdoors, make a note of the Bite Club Market, to be held at The Workshop Newtown on 23 September… a fun day of soothing live music, gourmet bites and plenty of fashion to choose from.
- Get your culture fix! One of the best things about Newtown Junction is its central location, right by the legendary Market Theatre. If it’s drama you want, get tickets for playwright Rajesh Gopie’s new play, Tamasha on Hope Street, that premieres on 8 September and runs until 1 October. For the more musically minded, there is When Ballet Meets Jazz, a unique collaboration that marries the rich heritage of South African jazz with dance, from 14 – 17 September.
- One of the city’s most unique bars is right here in Newtown Junction, and only open on Thursdays… Once upon a time an Edwardian men’s loo, now a quirky, classy venue, the Gentlemen’s Art House club and cocktail bar is arguably the edgiest outing in town!
