A deal in Europe doesn’t just happen overnight. Atterbury has been active on the Continent for quite some time. Our first European development venture is the Waverley project in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland.
It is very similar in size and scope to Lynnwood Bridge in Pretoria says Gideon Oosthuizen, Executive Director of Atterbury Europe. “The project includes three hotels which are all let on 25-year lease contracts, and construction on the hotels is underway. Two are due for opening in March 2016 and the third in October 2016. There is also office space of 16 000m² and residential apartments, all of which surround a new public square, with an exciting and vibrant new restaurant quarter, a food retailer and ample underground parking.
“The project is situated directly adjacent to Waverley train station, the central station in Edinburgh. Also, the site abuts the Royal Mile on the opposite side, with one of the hotels’ lobby having a door opening onto the actual Royal Mile. It’s expected to draw significant footfall from the station and the Royal Mile to the restaurant quarter” explains Oosthuizen.
Jeanne Jordaan, Director Construction at Atterbury Property Developments is responsible for the project management on the Waverley project in Edinburgh. Jeanne flies to Edinburgh every second month for project meetings.
