Khari Krüger joined Atterbury Property Developments earlier this year as Marketing Manager. As a valuable member of the Atterbury team, we asked her to share her experience in the property sector contributing to our series on exceptional Atterbury women in property:
How did you get involved with the property industry?
I was introduced to the property and retail industry in 2005 after completing my studies at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). A daily schedule included the planning and execution of shopping centre marketing strategies (launches, promotions, advertising, public relations and events etc.). After 10 years in this field and the completion of a Certificate in Shopping Centre Management, I worked for a “Landlord” directly (no longer as part of an agency). This resulted in exposure to more than just shopping centre marketing within the property industry and involved taking over the entire marketing function including the company identity prior and post listing on the JSE. It was an honour to look after shopping centres and new developments based in South Africa and Zambia. After two years of extensive “Africa” travelling, spending most of my time on new and existing developments in Lusaka, Kabwe, Ndola, Kitwe and Solwezi, Atterbury Property Developments required a marketing manager. Having had exposure to the relevant departments within the industry, I grabbed this opportunity with both hands.
What do you like most about working in the property sector?
The fact that there are so many fields and departments that contribute towards one successful deal. Marketing within the industry is my passion and only a small portion of the property development process. To work with our preferred architects, suppliers and internal team is a privilege.
What advice would you give women who want to get into the property sector as a career?
The industry caters for so many areas of expertise, be passionate and enjoy every moment!
