Atterbury Property celebrates the talented women who make up 58% of our incredible team. As part of our ongoing series on exceptional women Atterbury Property is privileged to call part of the team, Financial Controller Seila Tshabalala shares her experience in the property sector:
How did you get involved with the property industry?
After finishing my studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2014, I joined Deloitte to complete my articles in order to obtain my CA(SA) designation. Thereafter, through referral, I was presented with an opportunity to be part of the newly established Atterbury Property Fund. I seized it with both hands. I saw a chance to be challenged and grow tremendously. It is so exciting to be associated with the Atterbury brand!
What do you like most about working in the property sector?
I love the challenge that comes with being a part of the Atterbury team. I am consistently kept on my toes due to the fast-paced nature of the property sector and I am learning each day as a result. I enjoy the fact that I am exposed to the asset management and development business units and am thus able to understand the operations of the sector holistically. Playing a role as part of the greater Atterbury team and building business relationships with various people has been a rewarding journey so far.
What advice would you give women who want to get into the property sector as a career?
My advice would be to build meaningful relationships. Relationships are critical to operating successfully in the industry. Adaptability is key. Every deal is different, so you need to be able to adapt to the circumstances of each deal. Lastly, challenge yourself. This is an exciting industry to be a part of and it provides a vast range of opportunities which you can tap into through dedication and hard work.
