Black Friday continues to be a growing retail trend. The total foot count for shoppers at Mall of Africa over the Black Friday weekend was 231 269 people and total vehicles from Friday to Sunday were 54 366. Of the 16 907 people detected on Black Friday, 7 657 (45%) were new shoppers to the mall. These visitors spent approximately 170 minutes inside Mall of Africa, visiting at least three shops on average.
Most Black Friday shoppers visited Game, the banking court, Checkers, Starbucks, Dion Wired and Wimpy. Some of the store stats:
- Game saw a 30% increase year-on-year
- Dion Wired experienced a 10% increase in sales year-on-year
- Edgars had a 12% increase year-on-year (Thursday – Sunday)
- Woolworths boasted a 21% increase on turnover over last year
- Incredible Connection increased sales by a whopping 75%
(Wednesday – Sunday)
At The Grove Mall of Namibia footfall grew with 3 000 compared to the previous year and a whopping 61 000 people visited the mall on Black Friday. Some of the stats:
- Clicks was number one in Namibia on Friday and doubled its set target for the day
- Musica sold 50% more than its projection for the day
- Game traded from midnight – 22:00 and increased sales by 9% compared to 2017
- Seattle Coffee Company had no Black Friday specials, yet still ended only 10% below the best-ever sales in the group
