As one of the largest discount retailers of general merchandise, Game is a sought-after anchor tenant to have in a shopping centre development. Besides its core business of appliances and electronics, Game now also offers customers a wide range of perishable and non-perishable goods. The store sells bulk and offer great variety – a winning combo for consumers. Game stores make a big impact as they occupy a large space in a mall which adds great value. In retail terms, Game is known to attract feet through the door at a mall, so other tenants like to have their shops close to it, making it a strong asset.

Game has an aggressive roll-out strategy in the rest of Africa, which offers it higher yields than in SA.The company is currently the third-largest distributor of consumer goods and the largest retailer of general merchandise, liquor and home-improvements equipment in Africa. With its competitive prices, it has great opportunity for growth in Africa. From a developer and shopping-centre owner’s perspective, having an anchor tenant such as Game strengthens the complement of offerings, which in turn attracts other strong tenants, creating a dominant centre for future sustainability.

The first Atterbury retail developments featuring Game stores included Centurion Mall, Garden Route Mall, Woodlands and Clearwater. Atterbury also has Game stores at The Grove – Mall of Namibia, Flamwood Walk, Bela Mall, Westwood Mall, Accra Mall and Manda Hill. Current malls under development that will include Game as an anchor tenant are the much anticipated Mall of Africa (opening April 2016) and Kumasi City Mall (opening April 2017).
