Project Overview:

The AttSolar photovoltaic facility at the University of Pretoria is a landmark renewable energy project designed to strengthen energy security and sustainability across the Hatfield and Hillcrest campuses. Developed by ATTSolar, a joint venture between Atterbury Group, Fledge Capital and MPower Investment, the 10.5 MWp solar PV plant will be constructed on unused university-owned land in Persequor Park at the intersection of the N1 and N4 freeways.

Implemented under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement, the facility will generate clean electricity and supply it directly via the Lynnwood Substation, meeting a substantial portion of campus energy demand while improving supply stability. Once operational, the system is expected to reduce the University’s carbon footprint by more than 30% and deliver long-term cost savings through lower electricity tariffs and reduced reliance on generators.

By putting underutilised land to productive use, the project demonstrates how strategic partnerships can advance South Africa’s energy transition while supporting institutional resilience and environmental stewardship.
