The signing up of the first tenant is always a landmark event for any new development, and with that first deal in the bag, it is all systems go. This is the big news at Atterbury’s big development site on the N3 at Gosforth Park, where Randport Industrial Park is set to go up. We got the inside details from Arno du Plessis
Who is the first tenant to sign and how much space are they taking?
The first tenant to sign on the dotted line was Cooper Vision. They manufacture contact lenses, and they are relocating their packing and distribution centre from Doornfontein to these new premises.
What does this first signature mean for Randport Industrial Park?
This officially kicks off the development and enables us to start with Phase 1 of the business-unit scheme. The associated infrastructure such as the gatehouse and the main internal road as well as the signalisation of the intersection into the Randport Industrial Park will now commence.
We believe the development will also house smaller business units – will these be freestanding units or will there be multiple tenants in one building?
The business-unit scheme consists of two phases, and each will have one large building which can house either multiple tenants or a single tenant. The design of the building allows for flexibility in that it can accommodate units varying from 650sqm to 4 000sqm.
What kind of tenants are you targeting for these units?
We are targeting the entire prospective tenant spectrum interested in operating from a centrally located secure park environment in the Germiston area.
What are the facilities on offer for these tenants, that make Randport Industrial such a desirable destination?
Firstly, the central location makes it desirable, and also the fact that tenants will operate from a well-planned, brand-new development. The site further offers superb visibility and easy access from the N3 highway. The reliable security offered by the park is also a big drawcard.
What are the next steps now that this deal has been signed?
Detailed planning of the Cooper Vision building is underway to enable us to commence with construction as soon as July 2018.
